Currently, I am a retired fulltime Engine
Company Lieutenant of thirty years. I am fulfilling my
dream to spend as much time fishing and passing on my
learning experiences.
What are these experiences? Well as a youth I can honestly
say my dad always found the time to take me fishing, and
sometimes we even brought my sister. We spent many hours
together enjoying this sport. As I got older, I found
fishing to be a source of relaxation and an avenue for
reducing work frustrations. Working a fire service schedule,
24 on 48 off, I was able to create time for getting on
the water as often as possible. Learning more of the sport,
in the early 1980’s I acquired a great interest
in fishing tournaments.
| At
the age of 15, I caught my first legal musky. A
fishing memory with my dad that I will never forget.
That was over thirty-seven years ago and I still
have a thrill when the call of "FISH ON"
is heard for a good musky.
|
|
|
In 1983 I fished my first major
tournament (Paul’s Pro/Am Musky Classic) in
Eagle River, Wisconsin, an annual fall tournament
which I have fished every year since. The competitive
fishing bug bit and in the fall of 1985 I bought
my first bass boat (a 176 Champion DC Elite with
a 150 XR-2 Merc) and I hit the tournament trail
in 1986. Fishing approximately thirty tourneys per
year, in the beginning, I compiled over twenty years
of tournament experience.
Tournament experience gave me a background in finding
fish!
What circuits, organizations, & tournaments
have I fished?

Gary Jacobs |

Two-time winner of Paul’s Pro-Am, thanks to his brother
Bill. Bill convinced Gary to be his partner in their
very first Muskie Tournament in 1992. The two went
on to win it and took home $10,000 in cash. Then went
on to win it again in 1993. They are now trying to
be the first team to win the tournament three times.
| |
The biggest thrill for Gary was in the year
2000 landing a 47-inch 36lb Muskie in Rollie
& Helen’s Spring Shootout tournament
with his partner and good friend Rick Pahl,
Winning 6th place and big fish money. This
picture is featured in “That Big Fat
Musky Book” by Eli Singer, chapter 44
Dick Heckel.
|
|
In 2001, Gary teamed up with his wife Linda, competing
in a new tournament circuit called the WMT (Wisconsin
Musky Tour) winning 1st place at the Eagle River chain
of lakes qualifier. Then placing 5th at the WMT Championship
that year.
They are three time qualifiers for the WMT championship.
Linda also won the Headwater Chapter of Muskies Inc
Women’s Open division that year.
In 2004 Gary and Linda headed south to Cave Run Kentucky
to compete in their first PMTT (Professional Musky
Tournament Trail) tournament. They took home 3rd place
and qualified for the Ranger Boats World Championship
held on Chautauqua Lake, New York. The long trip east
to New York State was well worth it as the team placed
5th and ended the year in the number 10 spot of the
PMTT Top-Gun standings.
Linda and Gary registered tournament Muskies in 4
different states and Canada in the 2004 season. Linda
also won the Headwaters Chapter of Muskie Inc. Women’s
Master division for 2004.
Linda and Gary call Eagle River their second home
and have a cottage on Catfish Lake on the Eagle River
Chain of Lakes.
Gary said he had the good fortune of having two big
brothers Bob & Bill to take him fishing as a kid.
In 1982, the three brothers and some friends started
their own Trout Fishing tournament in central Wisconsin.
When their Dad passed away in 1990 they named the
tournament after him the “Lavern Jacobs Trout
Classic”. The three brothers and their wives
enjoy the thrill of sport fishing competition.
The team’s current sponsors are: Heckel’s
Marina, Cabela’s, Mercury Marine, MotorGuide
Trolling Motors, Lowrance Electronics, Ranger boats
and Bucher Tackle.

LEGENDARY WALLEYE
GUIDE GREG BOHN
BY: SCOTT RICHARDSON - OUTDOOR WRITER PENTEGRAPH
Wisconsin's Legendary Walleye guide, Greg Bohn has
evolved into one of North America's foremost fishing
educators and tackle designers. Bohn has been a pioneer
in walleye tackle technology and presentation techniques
for over 30 years! His Walleye Tackle Inventions include
the Original Stinger Hook, Timb'r Rock Jig, Veg-E
Jig, No-Snagg Hook, Thill Pro-Series Floats, Thill
Pro-Series Slip Bobber Rigs and Snells. Mr. Slip Bobber
Jig Bugs, Mr. Slip Bobber Pro-Bead and Pro-Blade Rigging
Kits, and Lindy No-Snagg Rigs. They currently hang
on peghooks at major retail outlets across the country.
Bohn considered first by many, responsible for developing
& pioneering significant Slip Bobber, Weed, and
Wood presentations for walleye. Bohn is refered to
by those within the fishing industry as Mr. Slip Bobber.
Greg & wife Audrey who helped him develop the
prototypes of the snagless Timb'r Rock Jig, No-Snagg
Hook, and Thill Pro-Series floats which are now
centerpieces of the Lindy's nationally marketed
tackle line. Bohn's NO-SNAGG Hook, & NO-SNAGG
Sinker designed by National Fishing Hall of Famer
Ron Lindner, has been hailed as one of angling's
major new tackle breakthroughs. Infact this Lindner
and Bohn team was honored with the "Best Of
Show Award" at the National I-Cast Show in
Las Vegas, Nevada.
Bohn's first
experiments with the No-Snagg technology began
in the early 1970s when he pioneered new tackle
concepts to contend with the wood and rocks
of the Turtle-Flambeau, Willow and Rainbow
flowages in Wisconsin's Walleye Belt of Wisconsin's
Vilas and Oneida counties. His success using
7-strand wire hook guards and inventing the
first-ever designed stinger hooks led to his
earlier Stinger Tackle Company in the 1970s.
He eventually opened the Strictly Walleye
Headquarters bait, tackle & guide service
business in Minocqua, Wis. Currently Bohn
guides, travels to seminars and promotes full
time. His new book "Master the Art of
Slip Bobbering " along with Bohn's Mr.
Slip Bobber tackle products are currently
being introduced.
|
|
|
His guiding success is evidenced by the
many trophies that have been hauled into
his boat. In 1994, he guided Gerald Patterson
on Little Bay de Noc to a #14 pound, 2 ounce
walleye measuring 34"-1/2 inches. The
National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame
lists the catch as the world record for
#17-pound line. It also was the largest
walleye caught in Michigan that year.
Just two years later, Bohn guided Tom Bodenheimer
on Little Bay de Noc to a #15 pound, 1 ounce
walleye that was 34"-1/2 inches long.
It was Michigan's largest recorded walleye
in 1996.
Then in 1997, Bohn introduced 12-year-old
Marcus Steigerwaldt to a #15 pound, 7 ounce
walleye on Lake Tomahawk that was 33"-1/2
inches long. The National Freshwater Hall
of Fame recognized it as the world record
for #25-pound line. The fish was the largest
walleye recorded in Wisconsin that year.
The largest inland lake walleye taken, in
over a decade!
Bohn himself holds four National Freshwater
Hall of Fame "Catch-and-Release"
walleye records for #10-, #12-, #15- and
#17-pound line.
Bohn collaborated in the late 1980's with
Fishing Hot Spots to write three highly-acclaimed
books in the "Secrets of a Northwoods
Walleye Guide" series. The first was
"Slip-Bobbering..." The second
was entitled, "Workin' the Wood..."
The third was "Weeds & Walleyes...".
Bohn's new book titled "Master the
Art of Slip Bobbering...The Deadliest Method
For Walleye resently released Nov/2006.
Bohn has produced four videos on walleye
fishing and is a highly sought-after nationally
recognized seminar speaker. His walleye
& panfish seminars have been visited
and shared with anglers in nearly every
state.
Lest you think Bohn is Strictly Walleye,
please note he caught a 56" - #44 pound,
8 ounce muskie from Plum Lake in Vilas County
Wisconsin. The Muskie nicknamed "Stood
Up" was boated while Bohn fished alone
after his clients that day never showed.
It was the longest regestered muskie caught
in North America and the second heaviest
caught in Wisconsin during 1993. It still
stands as the 8th largest overall muskie
ever caught in Wisconsin.
He has written over 150 articles on a variety
of walleye, crappie and muskie topics for
top national publications as "In-Fisherman,"
"Walleye In-Sider," "Fishing
Facts", Midwest Outdoors, Outdoor Notebook
and "North American Fisherman."
He also is a regular contributor on In-Fisherman
Radio and Mike Jackson Outdoors.
Bohn's corporate sponsors include Heckels
Marine, Lamiglas Rods, Lindy Lengendary
Tackle Co, Hummingbird Electronics, Minn-Kota,

I have been guiding
since 1960, and have my original guides certificate
& guides button.
I was raised on Lake Winnebago, and have been fishing
since I was 8 years old. Walleye's were the primary
target while going through my learning curve.
Have stream fished for trout throughout Wisconsin
& Canada. While living in Manitowoc I
spent five years successfully fishing for
Trout, Salmon, and Lake Trout. The Muskie's
were always there while fishing for other
species. When we moved to Eagle River 15 years
ago, the Muskie bug really bit me. I Guide
almost exclusively for Muskies, but do manage
to do multi-species when called for. Have
fished many different States, and the providence's
of Canada since the early 60's, and have also
fished many tournaments through out the US
and Canada. I have current model boats, motors,
and fishing tackle to match the needed outing.
I'll provide a great day on the water.

For a great angling
experience try a day fishing for the mighty muskellunge
with "Ranger" Rick Krueger, owner of Guides
Choice Pro Shop in Eagle River. Rick is considered
one of the top muskie guides in northern Wisconsin,
he is also the lead educator for Guides Choice Fishing
Adventures programs held across the Midwest and Canada.
Rick can accommodate novice to expert. His true love
is fishing muskie during the fall. He has an outstanding
record of boating 14 muskies over 30 pounds in Vilas
County, Wisconsin in three seasons.

Yes, I've heard all the blond jokes!
I guess naming my guide service "A Blond and
Her Boat" opened the flood gates. Luckily,
I have a sense of humor.
One thing I'm quite serious about, however, is
my passion for musky fishing. Whether you are newcomer
to this sport or already an avid hunter, I will
provide you with an enjoyable day on the water.

New to 2007
is our WOW! Women on the Water fishing trips.
Working together with other fishing pros,
we are offering all-women's, couples, and
"unisex" group fishing trips to
Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Canada. We've put
together some unique trips...couples chasing
muskies together, women's canoe & multi-species
fishing trips, Musky Huntress trips, etc.
Check out the complete itinerary and details
on the Women on the Water page.
I also offer traditional guided casting packages
out of my Crestliner Fishhawk. This boat is
completely rigged up and comfortable. However,
my specialty lies in the sport of row trolling.
This age old technique is a fantastic way
to access suspended fish while getting a little
exercise (yes, you row, too!). It is a wonderful
(and warm) way to catch fat muskies in late
fall. I have a sturdy 17' 3&qu | | | | |
